Children, especially between 2 to 5 years of age, are eager learners. They have so many questions for which they look up to parents or caregivers for their answers, and we got to attend to their questions sincerely because every dialogue and conversation has its impact on the child. While stories play a vital role in the growth and development of children, it is the dialogue and the conversations that one has with the child that builds their confidence, participation, language skills, and most importantly teaches them everyday tasks, such as how to brush their teeth, taking care of the self and the surroundings, cleaning up, tidying and even preparing food. This opens up the scope and helps to develop a child’s imagination by introducing new ideas in their lives.

Children learn to express themselves, and it helps them understand and accept their feelings. Watching the responses of the adults and siblings gives them ideas about situations and emotions. Thus, I say ‘Every dialogue and conversation with your child matters’. That’s what I learnt with my debut book ‘Pratham, Mum and The City’ when the first in the series was over.

The book ‘Pratham, Mum and The City’ by Pallavi Prakash Kumar brings to the stage an inquisitive young boy with his innocent yet exigent questions centred around the urban cityscape and lifestyle, to his mum. Join them on their journey and how they find their answers!
